Dr. Mann, an internationally recognized foot and ankle surgeon, is a native Californian who graduated
from the University of California at Berkeley. He attended medical school and completed an orthopaedic
residency at the University of California in San Francisco.
Following two years in the army, Dr. Mann practiced general orthopaedic surgery for ten years in
Oakland, California. In 1978 he limited his practice to the treatment of disorders of the foot and
ankle. Shortly thereafter, he started a Foot and Ankle Fellowship and has trained 50 Fellows who
practice throughout the United States.
Dr. Mann is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and frequently
participates in the instruction course lectures. He is the past President of the American Orthopaedic
Foot and Ankle Society, and has an annual award for the outstanding clinical paper named after him -
the Roger A. Mann Award. Currently, he is the lead investigator for the FDA study evaluating the
Scandinavian Total Ankle Replacement.
Academically, Dr. Mann has written more than 120 journal articles, 70 book chapters, and is co-author
of the most widely used orthopaedic textbook on foot and ankle surgery entitled "Surgery of the Foot
and Ankle."
In 1999 his son, Jeffrey Mann, M.D., joined him in practice in Oakland, California.
